Rewire reason to it for a different flavour (just the reason standard package IMO - $399 or less at resellers), to have killer electronic drum sequencers and a few classic synths - that don't take any cpu therefore are ideally suited to the one core for all rewire paradigm, and you have a totally awesome in sync mega daw - with logic's PDC over the rewire channels when using latent AU effects. You can spend say $500 on extra plugs, and for $700 total have the most comprehensive package possibly available. and now it has alchemy complete included which was $749 lol.įor those wanting absolutely *everything*, you still need kontakt, a better EQ, and if desired, a tape/sat/channel plugin.

And even if you do its still great value - the money you save on PC hardware is easily eaten up by the cost for such a software package. Apple can only do this because you have to buy a Mac to use it. You could buy a laptop with a well specced CPU and RAM, and then buy a large aftermarket SSD to replace the factory unit.Normen wrote:"pretty good" is the understatement of the century ^^ Its a totally insane price since it was added to the app store - even without _all_ of its synths. At the moment on newegg, a 1TB samsung SSD costs $399. Good news though, if you're a user of large library/sample bank VSTs, much larger SSDs are becoming more affordable. Obviously it depends on what you're using the laptop for. Because I mainly use my laptop for writing new material while I'm on the train, not being able to access older files isn't a big deal. The files will remain synced to my desktop workstation as well as stored on the dropbox servers, which lets me sync them again at any stage if I need to work on older material. If I start running out of space, I'll just stop syncing the oldest project files to the laptop drive via the dropbox UI. There's not much else on the laptop, a couple of games and that's it - so 256gb is plenty of room. I have a ~90gb sample library, mostly drums, breaks, and some multisamples. My entire /vstplugins dir is only ~350mb. Like I said, I'm in hiphop, and I only use synth and drum machine VSTs really. I've been using this setup for around a year and it's working really well. All my files are safe on dropbox's servers, so I never have to worry about losing work in the event of a crash. With this setup, I can open any file on either computer, it's synced to the latest changes and mix, and I can bounce from either my laptop or desktop with confidence.

I also copy every file from my library to the project folder when I import audio - I'm a hiphop guy so it doesn't take up heaps of room. All files are synced to a dropbox directory, so I've always got the most up to date project files.

In terms of syncing files, I have identical installs of Cubase and the plugins I use running on my laptop which I use for composing while commuting, and my desktop workstation PC, which I use for mixing and recording. Basically, it's not cheap and you can't really skimp on any of them. The RAM, CPU and SSD are all crucial to performance.
